The Deputy Prosecutor General has the same competence as the Prosecutor General in matters assigned to him/her, he/she also acts as the deputy of the Prosecutor General.
The division of tasks between the two is laid down in greater detail in the Rules of Procedure of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
The Deputy Prosecutor General makes decisions regarding the general administration of the prosecution service, the salary determination, the supervision of prosecutors and freedom of expression.
When the Deputy Prosecutor General is prevented from performing his/her official duties, he/she will be substituted by the heads of a units on the basis of seniority. The heads of the units are according to seniority state prosecutors Raija Toiviainen (the international unit), Christer Lundstöm (the Administrative Unit) Mika Illman (the Steering and Development Unit) and Jukka Rappe (the prosecution unit).
Mr. Jorma Kalske is holding the position of the Deputy Prosecutor General.
