The Office of the Prosecutor General

The prosecutorial organization is a two-tiered structure. It consists of the Office of the Prosecutor General, which is the central authority of the prosecution service, and 13 local prosecution offices with 25 service bureaus.

Most criminal cases are dealt with by district prosecutors. Designated prosecutors take care of cases of military offences. Likewise, offences allegedly committed by police officers are assigned to given prosecutors, one of whom also always acts as head of the inquiry.

Key Prosecutors

The system of key prosecutors has been developed to address the internal needs of specialisation and effective allocation of resources within the prosecution service. Key prosecutors deal with cases requiring special expertise, e.g. environmental offences, computer crimes, drug-related crimes and offences with an international connection. Key prosecutors are competent to prosecute cases in their field of expertise anywhere in the country.
